Bat watching cruise with the Lone Star section

Early Saturday morning six Houston section members traveled to Austin to join the Lone Star section for their annual bat watching cruise on Lady Bird Lake.

We arrived in Austin at noon for lunch and met the Lone Star members at the Oasis on Lake Travis. The restaurant is known as the sunset capital because of the spectacular views looking west over the lake from an elevation that is a couple hundred feet above see level. We were not there a sunset but even at high noon the view was amazing.

After lunch a few of the section members traveled to downtown Austin to visit the Bob Bullock museum that everything about the state of Texas.

After the museum we made the short drive across the river to check in to the hotel. The hotel was very nice and the negotiated rate by the Lone Star section for MBCA members made the stay even better.

We met in the hotel for drinks and snacks before making the short walk outside to board the Lone Star Express for the bat tour. Bat watching during the late summer evening is very popular with the locals. There were several other chartered boat tours and many folks on canoes and kayacks. The bridges that cross the lake were lined with people vying for the best spots to see the bats emerge from below.

On Sunday morning a few of us met for breakfast before heading back home after a great weekend.

Thanks Lone Star section for the invitation to join your event.
