ECHO St. Simons Island, at The King & Price Beach & Golf Resort
Jacksonville, FL to St Simons Island
Georgia
Dave Wommer

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort (www.KingandPrince.com) is situated among Georgia’s fabled Golden Isles, and rich in history, relaxed charm, and natural beauty, making it the perfect spot to enjoy the views overlooking pristine beaches, Jekyll Island, and the Atlantic Ocean!

It is located approximately halfway between Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL. The resort is surrounded by countless recreational activities, historic sites, and attractions that offer something for everyone!

We’ll plan to dine outdoors, on the open-air terrace at their restaurant ECHO. (www.EchoStSimons.com). Naval Air Station St. Simons was an important installation during World War II. Radar was a new technology, a critical advantage for the allies and a top priority for the base’s mission. ECHO is the former location for officers’ quarters, classrooms and towers using to amplify the signal during the War. The name ‘ECHO’ comes from the island’s naval history. As radar sent its electromagnetic waves in and out and then repeated, this ebb and flow became the heartbeat of the War’s impact on St. Simons Island.

On Sunday, April 25, we’ll rendezvous at 11:30am at a location near The Avenues Mall in Jacksonville, FL, then we'll begin our convoy to Georgia via I-95. (Depending on interest we may stop in Yulee at Florida Citrus Center (462544 State Road 200, Yulee, FL 32097) to join Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island members, and possibly a third stop at the Mobile on US 17 in Brunswick (743 US-17, Brunswick, GA 31523) to pick up Georgia members who may be interested folks (depending on RSVPs).

After a couple hours of enjoyment, we’ll caravan back to our home destinations. The drive is approximately 95 miles one-way, or 1.5 hours, from our rendezvous point.
